Slovenia in Summer Workshop
14th to 18th June 2024 - Available
I run this workshop with my friend and experienced Slovenian landscape photographer Marko Trebusak. We have been running workshops in Slovenia for almost 20 years and have amassed a long list of spectacular and interesting photographic locations throughout the country. Local knowledge is indispensable for making the most of this fantastic location and, although we can't guarantee the weather or lighting conditions, we can ensure you that we'll get you to the best photographic locations for whatever conditions we face during the workshop.
Slovenia is well known for its stunning northwest Alpine region, with deep gorges, high mountains and quiet alpine valleys. During this tour the hay meadows in the valleys and alpine meadows in the mountains will be full of wildflowers, butterflies and other insects. The famous Soča valley, with its amazing turquoise river water, is located in the heart of the Julian Alps. At this time of the year the water should be running clear and the riverside trees will be in full foliage. The days are long in June, but the photography is always our priority! We will have two photographic sessions each day, making best use of the warm light around sunrise and sunset. We will return to the hotel for a short sleep at night and again during the middle of the day when the light is harsh. Although this will predominately be a landscape photography workshop, we will also be photographing some wildlfowers and insects.
We’ll spend most of our time in and around the mountains, so a decent level of physical fitness will be required. We will need to hike at times, but rarely longer than an hour in each direction. Our base will be close to Lake Bled, which has a good choice of restaurants, and of course the famous church on the island!
Slovenia has long been one of my favourite destinations for photography and this particular workshops always yields a really good variety of shots from all over the country.
