Resplendent Costa Rica
8th to 19th April 2025 - Available
Join me to photograph the wildlife and wild places of this amazing country in Central America where we will be touring the rainforest and cloud forest environments that give Costa Rica such rich biodiversity.
The itinerary for this workshop includes locations for a variety of rainforest birds, frogs, insects, reptiles, flowers and possibly a few mammals and landscapes. I will be your photographic guide during this trip. Local photographer and guide Paulo Valerio will be your Costa Rican guide. Paulo is a talented photographer with a gift for spotting wildlife and an excellent knowledge of Costa Rica’s wildlife.
Our main target species during this particular workshop is the resplendent quetzal, which is a stunning iridescent forest bird for which this region is famous. I have timed this workshop for when the quetzals are nesting, and hopefully bringing food back to their nest holes regularly. This should provide us with excellent opportunities for flight shots, which are not that easy to obtain through the rest of the year! We have six sessions photographing quetzals from hides close to their nesting sites to increase our chances of capturing the perfect shot of these spectacular birds.
The variety of other bird species we hope to photograph is too long to list here, but should include emerald toucanet, golden-browed chlorophopnia, white-throated mountain gem, white-collared manakin, acorn woodpecker and much more. We will have use of private multi-flash hummingbird set-ups at times. There will be multiple nighttime frog photography sessions. We will also have exclusive use of a fantastic location for capturing great images of leaf-cutter ants at work.
This programme will be quite different to my popular November Costa Rica workshops.
