Lake District in Autumn

25th to 29th October 2026 (Sold Out)

During this workshop we will photograph the spectacular landscape scenery of the Lake District National Park, hopefully at the height of the autumn foliage colour. Weather permitting, we will start photographing each day before sunrise and finish after sunset. With all the shades of autumn around we will be less dependent on good light. In fact, overcast light can work well for photographing autumn colour!

The priority during this workshop will be to capture autumn colour in the landscape, with mist and reflections whenever possible. This will include both wide landscapes and close details, possibly also a few macro shots. It will be necessary to walk to some locations, often uphill on rough paths to reach the best vantage points. However, there will be no very long hikes. The maximum distance will be a 2-3km in each direction.

Participants will travel in my large four-wheel drive vehicle, which will be equipped for winter conditions just in case! Our start and end point for this workshop will be at our hotel near Skelwith Bridge.

PLANNED ITINERARY

Itinerary (which can be made slightly flexible according to weather conditions):

  • Day one: Arrive at our hotel near Skelwith Bridge for an initial talk through the itinerary, check camera settings etc. Overnight here.
  • Day two to four: Explore the Lake District National Park from dawn to dusk. Exact locations will depend upon weather conditions at the time, but will include mountain views, bridges, waterfalls, woodlands and (hopefully) misty valleys. It is likely that we will travel to Keswick in the north and around to Wast Water in the southwest. However, many of the best locations are within easy reach from our base near Skelwith Bridge.
  • Day five: Dawn shoot before checking out of our hotel and heading home.

Please bear in mind that we will be exploring quite a large area to get as much variety as possible, so there will be some quite lengthy travelling times between some locations, not in terms of distance but because we must drive around mountains on small roads to reach different locations at the best time for photography. We may not visit locations in the most logical order, as we need to be in each place at the right time for the light and prevailing weather conditions.
