Iceland Workshop

I will be running a new workshop in Iceland for Authentic Adventures in July, during which we will be exploring some of the most extraordinary landscapes imaginable. We will visit the dramatic seabird colonies on the giant cliffs at Latrabjarg, the silent sands of Lonsos, the steaming sulphur fields of Namaskard, along with a variety of impressive waterfalls and coastal landscapes.
On landing in Reykjavik we take a short domestic flight to Akureyri where we transfer to our hotel in Myvatn in time to photograph dusk at Godafoss or the pseudo crater group at Skutustadir. The area around Lake Myvatn has many strange volcanic features with the bizarre landscape of the fumeroles and bubbling mudpools at Namaskard likely to provide one of the photographic highlights of the trip. Other possible locations in the north include: Dettifoss, Selfoss, Hafragilsfoss canyon, the black sand beach at Lonsos, lava formations at Hofdi, steaming sulphur fields at Namaskard, Godafoss and the Skjálfandafljót canyon at Aldeyjarfoss which features wonderful basalt columns. During our stay there's an option to bathe in thermally-heated baths and join a whale watching trip.
We then move west to Gauksmyri where the photographic opportunities include: Akureyri town, basalt rock structures at Kálfshamarsvík and the Vatnses peninsula. After one night here we head further west to the Latrabjarg peninsula, where we will enjoy seeing thousands of seabirds of several different species inhabiting this 9 miles stretch of sheer cliff which stands 1,320 feet above the sea. However, the main subject here will undoubtedly be puffins! We may also get the chance to photograph the nearby Raudisandur.
On our way back to Keflavik we will spend one night at Langaholt. Here we will encounter more wildlife, photogenic coastal villages, colourful harbours and the Berserkjahraun lava field. The ferry across Breidafjordur Bay to Stykkisholmur gives us the chance to explore the Snaefellsness peninsula, including a great lighthouse.
Note: This is an extraordinarily rich photographic itinerary. However, please be aware that the trip does involve a lot of travel.
